Graco Swing Light Blinking? What It Means and How to Fix It

You finally got the baby settled, pressed the button, and nothing happened except a little light flashing back at you. A Graco swing light blinking with no motion usually means the swing isn’t getting enough power, or that something is stopping the motor. Most of the time you can fix it in a couple of minutes: take your baby out, check the power, clear anything in the way, then unplug the swing for 10 seconds and plug it back in. What a Blinking Light on a Graco Swing Usually Means

Graco’s own help center says a flashing light with no motion usually means the swing isn’t getting enough power, or the motor has hit an obstruction. What you see along with the blinking narrows it down.

Light colors and patterns are not the same on every Graco swing. A green power light on one model may be a red speed light on another, so treat the table as a starting point and check the troubleshooting page in your own manual.

Graco Swing Light Blinking When Plugged In

A Graco swing light blinking when plugged in is the most common version of the problem, and it often has nothing to do with the swing itself. Graco’s steps for its plug-in swings, such as the Simple Sway, Duet Connect, Soothe ‘n Sway, Soothe My Way and Sense2Soothe, start with the power supply.

How Do You Reset a Graco Baby Swing?

To reset a Graco baby swing, take your baby out, unplug the adapter from the wall, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. Graco says this fixes glitches more often than pressing the power button. If your swing runs on batteries, take them out for a moment, fit a fresh set and switch the swing back on.

If the light is still blinking after the reset, work through these checks in order.

1. Use the adapter that came with the swing. A phone charger or an adapter from another baby product can look the same and still not supply the right power. Graco only recommends its own adapter for each model.
2. Check both ends of the cord. The plug should be pushed fully into the swing and into the wall, with no bent pins or frayed cable.
3. Test the outlet. Plug a lamp or phone charger into the same socket. If it doesn’t work, the problem is the outlet or a tripped switch, not the swing.
4. Check the other features. If the lights and music work but the seat doesn’t move, power is reaching the swing, so look for an obstruction next.
5. Try a different speed. On the Simple Sway and Duet Connect, Graco suggests changing the speed setting to see if the seat starts moving.
6. Listen to the motor. A humming or clicking sound with no movement usually means something is stopping the seat, or the motor needs service.

If your swing runs on both batteries and an adapter, take the batteries out while you test the adapter. That way you know which power source is the problem.

Graco Swing Light Blinking on Batteries

On battery power, a Graco swing light blinking is very often a low battery warning. Even new batteries can be the cause if they’ve been stored for a long time or mixed with older ones.

• Fit a complete fresh set. Replace every battery at once, and don’t mix old and new batteries or different types.
• Check the size and number. The label inside the battery door and your manual show exactly what your model takes. Some models, for example, use four C batteries.
• Check the direction. Match each battery to the plus and minus marks in the compartment.
• Look for corrosion. White or green crust on the metal contacts can stop power getting through. With the batteries out, clean it gently with a dry cloth.
• Close the battery door properly. A lid that isn’t fully closed can stop the contacts touching.

How Do You Change the Batteries in a Graco Swing?

To change the batteries in a Graco swing, take your baby out and switch the swing off first. Open the battery door, which on many models has a coin slot, take out every old battery and fit a full fresh set. Match each one to the plus and minus marks, close the door firmly, then switch the swing on to test it.

4. Remove all the old batteries.

Keep old and new batteries out of your baby’s reach, and recycle used ones.

Swing Light Blinking but Not Moving

If the power checks don’t fix it, the motor is probably being stopped by something. Graco’s help center lists these steps.

1. Remove your baby and check for toys, blankets, straps or clothing caught in the seat or frame.
2. Move the seat by hand. It should swing freely. If it catches, look for a strap, toy bar or cover rubbing against the frame.
3. Check the setup. Make sure the seat is clicked fully into place and the swing is standing on a flat floor, not on a rug edge or an uneven surface.
4. Check the weight. Many Graco swings, such as the Duet Sway, are rated up to 25 pounds in swing mode. The Duet Sway’s manual says a blinking light with no motion can mean the load is over 25 pounds. Check your model’s exact limit.
5. Turn the swing off, wait a moment, and turn it back on.

Some parents find that giving the seat a gentle push before switching on helps older swings get going. If yours only works with a push every time, the motor may be wearing out, and it’s worth contacting Graco.

Why Is My Graco Swing Light Blinking Green?

A blinking green light on a Graco swing usually comes from the power light. If the seat isn’t moving, it points to low power or a blocked motor, so start with a 10-second unplug reset or fresh batteries, then check for obstructions. If the swing is moving normally, the light may simply be showing that the timer is set.

On some Graco swings the light flashes while the timer is on, and the swing stops by itself when the time runs out. Your manual’s controls page shows what each light means on your model.

Red Light Flashing and Swinging Too Fast

Consumer Reports has reported hundreds of parent reviews of the Graco Slim Spaces Compact Baby Swing describing the same pattern: a red light starts flashing, and the swing then runs at full speed no matter which setting is chosen. Many parents said it happened as the batteries ran low, and at least four reports were made to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Graco has said the swing has no safety issue.

If your swing does this, don’t keep using it. Take your baby out, switch it off, and contact Graco. You can also report it to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov, which helps regulators spot patterns.

Graco Swing Not Working at All

If there are no lights, no sound and no movement, the swing isn’t getting any power.

1. Unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in, or fit a full set of fresh batteries.
2. Test the outlet with another device.
3. Check that you’re using the original Graco adapter and that it’s pushed fully into the swing.
4. Look for a damaged cord or corroded battery contacts.
5. If the swing still won’t power on, don’t open the motor housing. Contact Graco instead.

When to Contact Graco or Stop Using the Swing

Contact Graco through its help center if the light keeps blinking after you’ve tried fresh batteries, a full reset and the obstruction checks, or if the motor makes grinding noises. Have your model number, date of manufacture and proof of purchase ready, in case the swing is still under warranty.

Stop using the swing completely if any of these happen.

• It speeds up or jerks on its own
• The motor or adapter gets hot, smells of burning, or smokes
• The frame, seat or straps are cracked or broken
• It has been recalled (see the FAQ below)

Don’t try to repair the motor or wiring yourself, and don’t replace the adapter with one from another brand.

Using a Swing Safely

A swing that works properly still needs a few rules. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says sitting devices like swings aren’t safe for sleep.
